Commissioners adopt county-wide AI awareness training; completion required by Aug. 31 for employees and elected officials

The San Patricio County Commissioners Court approved the Texas Association of Counties AI awareness training program as the county's official training to satisfy Texas Government Code sections 2054.5191 and 2054.5193 for fiscal year 2026.
The judge read the agenda language saying the training "shall be required for all county employees and elected officials subject to the provisions of the Texas government code 2054.5191 and 2054.5193 for San Patricio County for fiscal year 2026," and that completion must occur no later than 08/31/2026. The program will be implemented at no additional cost and will be included in existing county cybersecurity training services.
A county staff member added that the training will also be mandated for law enforcement personnel even if they previously completed CJIS training: "It is also going to be mandated that law enforcement is, going to have to do the cybersecurity training. Even though they completed their CJIS training, they're letting us know that everyone across the county has to complete that training." The court approved the adoption by voice vote.
Officials said the county will distribute logins for employees who do not have county email and will provide authorization forms to keep on file.
