The Percival Town Council opened a public hearing on a proposed increase in the town's real property tax levies for calendar year 2026. Staff explained that a revaluation produced an equalized rate and that the public notice advertised a maximum rate of 22¢ per $100 to allow council flexibility during budget deliberations.
Connie Lamar, introducing the staff briefing, said, "For the tax year 2026, real property assessments increased by 2.7% excluding assessments associated with new construction," and noted the town's adopted 2025 rate was 19.2¢. Residents who testified afterward expressed mixed views: some urged the council to adopt a modest increase to avoid draining reserves and maintain services, while others criticized council actions earlier in the year and urged transparency and legal caution before changing rates.
