Grandmother asks council for help after CPS case, says she's paying $500 per week for hotel

Pamela Ward told the council she reported a child-protective-services matter involving two grandchildren and said she had not received assistance despite repeated calls. Ward said she is paying about $500 a week for a hotel while trying to secure help and that she was told by a CPS worker to return the children to the house where they alleged abuse occurred, which she declined to do.
"I'm paying $500 a week for a hotel, and the CPS worker has not tried to assist at all," Ward said, asking council members for contact information or referrals to agencies that could help. Deputy City Manager Bridal De Profio pointed out that Assistant City Manager Quasi Obang, who works with human services, was in the back row and could help connect Ward to resources.
