"This evening's spotlight shines, on a group of individuals whose voices were critical to Hampton being named a 2025 All America City," the Chair said, introducing honorees who did not all travel to Denver but whose local work framed the application.
The recognition highlighted a range of efforts: neighborhood organizing in flood-prone Briarfield, student STEM projects tied to oyster restoration, long-term volunteer-driven environmental stewardship, regional nonprofit support and city communications that amplified the city's story. The Chair noted that some honorees were unable to attend in person and singled out one staff member who welcomed a baby just weeks before the trip to Denver.
Vice Mayor Brown led applause for the honorees and thanked volunteers for work he said could not be bought: "keep doing what you do because it volunteers a and they can't be paid for what they're worth," he said, encouraging continued community engagement.
The recognitions were framed as proof that "resilience is not just a concept or a plan in a book," the Chair said, but "neighbors helping neighbors, teachers inspiring students, nonprofits sharing and partnering with communities, and city staff pushing forward bold solutions." The meeting then adjourned to reconvene at 6:30 p.m.
