Resident urges council to form homelessness task force and pilot transitional housing

Latoya Fleming told the council she supports the city's current efforts but believes shelters and support programs are overextended and urged creation of a task force to coordinate leaders, nonprofits, churches and residents. Fleming described a proposal for launching a pilot transitional housing program and support services to help people stabilize and reduce strain on emergency services; she said she had emailed the detailed plan to council members earlier in the day.
"Let's form the task force and commit to reviewing this pilot proposal as a step toward lasting change," Fleming said, asking that council review the emailed proposal and engage community stakeholders. Council thanked her and said staff would review the emailed material.
