Calvert County schools outline FY26 pressures as ESSER funds wind down

Dr. Townsville, superintendent of Calvert County Public Schools, presented the BOE's proposed FY2026 budget and said the plan seeks to maintain current services and staffing while meeting Blueprint requirements. "As superintendent of Calvert County Public Schools, it is my privilege to present our proposed board of education budget for the fiscal '26," Townsville said, noting inflationary pressures and the end of ESSER funding shifted some costs to the local budget.
Townsville said the BOE is not seeking additional county funding this year and plans to use under‑spending from FY24, projected FY25 savings and interest earnings to cover increased expenditures tied to the Blueprint and career ladder costs. A commissioner asked whether reimbursements for capital items such as student laptops would be covered; Townsville replied the BOE will assign unassigned fund balance and savings "so we don't have to ask" the county for more.
