Commissioners table medical-insurance selection, authorize termination notice to Curative amid 36% renewal increase

The court opened discussion on RFP #26-01 to select fully insured/level-funded medical benefits for fiscal year 2026–27 but agreed not to make a final choice at this meeting. Commissioners discussed tradeoffs between a Baylor Scott & White Premier option and a Blue Cross Blue Shield alternative: one speaker noted that Baylor "out of network is not covered," which would reduce provider access in exchange for lower out‑of‑pocket costs for some employees. A participant reported the county’s prior total cost was "$2,965,004.64" and that a renewal total was about "$4,139,000," described in the meeting as roughly a 36.6% increase. On a motion to table vendor selection until the next regular meeting, the court also approved authorizing a termination letter to Curative if Curative is not included in the next screening process; the court said the comparative analysis will be circulated to allow employee feedback.
