Coryell County court says new financial software will improve transparency

The chair of the Coryell County Commissioners Court said a transition to a new financial-software system is a milestone that will give the county more granular information and greater transparency.
“We are in the process of transitioning from an old set of financial software to a new set of financial software,” the chair said, praising auditors and treasurer's staff for intensive recent work. The chair thanked staff members Whitlock, Mannix, Campbell, Ewing and McFarland and noted another employee, Sherry, whose last name was not specified. The chair added, “I truly believe that this is a milestone that's going to set the county up for success, for years to come.”
Court discussion described the rollout as roughly a year-long project with the last six weeks — and especially the last two weeks — marked by intensive, on-site training by the financial software vendor for the treasurer's and auditor's offices. The chair said payroll has already been processed under the new product and that the next module planned for implementation is budgeting, which the court will review in future meetings.
Commissioner Taylor and another commissioner offered brief endorsements during discussion, saying the new reports are easier to read and contain clearer detail. The chair said the system will allow trend analysis tools the county did not have previously.
The court did not take separate action on the software itself during the special meeting; it was discussed as context for the regular agenda item to pay bills.
