Local merchants told the commission that several public trash cans in the downtown district are overflowing and that city-contracted pickup appears inconsistent. Committee member (S3) said one can in front of their business went "3 or 4 weeks" without being emptied and another location remains full. The chair said she had shared photos with Scott Davis and requested staff follow up with city waste-management contractors.
"The 1 in front of ours went 3 or 4 weeks without being completely full. And then they finally emptied this last week, and the 1 around the corner still is not gonna be and you've got trash just pouring out of it," S3 said. Members noted that new 'to-go' items from restaurants are increasing fill rates and that the waste contract technically requires weekly pickup; staff were asked to confirm schedule adherence and to request additional cans where needed near the garage exits.
