The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners approved two appointments to the Board of Appeals, adopted a five-item consent agenda that included several law-enforcement grant applications, and later voted to recess into executive session under Maryland statute to discuss personnel, legal advice and pending litigation.
Deputy County Administrator Linda Turner presented staff recommendations for the Board of Appeals. A commissioner moved and the board appointed Thomas Briscoe as a full voting member and Sonya Wagner as the first alternate; the motion carried by voice vote. The consent agenda—approved without discussion—included four Calvert County Sheriff's Office grant submissions for FY2026 (gun violence reduction, local warrant apprehension and absconding, community grant funds, and a Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network/Overdose and Drug Awareness Coordinator grant) and a Department of Public Works lease for Calvert Advanced Life Support Unit Inc.
Late in the meeting a commissioner moved to recess to executive session pursuant to provisions of Maryland law to discuss appointments, personnel matters, legal advice and pending litigation; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The meeting president reiterated a reminder about the FY26 budget public hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. that evening and noted the budget is balanced with no tax increases.
