City approves $200,000 contract for "Operation In As Much" volunteer home-repair events

The Finance Committee approved a $200,000 contract with Community Housing Solutions of Guilford Inc. to operate Operation In As Much events in fall 2026 and spring 2027, city staff said.
Nina Wilson, Community Development Housing Director, told the committee the fall event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7 in the Sherwood Village neighborhood and that the spring date and neighborhood are to be determined. She said the contract provides $100,000 per event and supports volunteer-driven home repairs such as ramps, painting and yard work. "To date, there have been approximately 1,900 volunteers who've donated their time and energy to assist 220 households," Wilson said.
Wilson described an application and qualification process administered by Community Housing Solutions because federal funds are involved, noting priority goes to households below 80% of area median income though limited exceptions may apply. The committee approved the contract by voice vote.
Staff said infographics and invoices are provided after the event to show spending, volunteer counts and households served.
