Huron Housing reports waitlist of 232, security-deposit grants and $196,000 rehab pipeline

Amy Fullerton, speaking for Huron Housing, described the authority's portfolio and programs: Manor, Donniewall, Bluebird and Field Estates. She said Field Estates and Donniewall are fair-market-rent properties; Donniewall and Manor are supportive housing that require case management through partner agencies.
Fullerton said the security deposit grant program has paid 14 deposits totaling $10,233 and the program has $25,000 available for the year. She reported 232 households on the housing-choice voucher waiting list and said the authority has not issued new assistance since November 2024 because the annual contributions contract requires strict adherence to budget without overspending.
On housing rehab, Fullerton said the program can fund improvements up to $30,000 per home (higher with approvals), that 23 applicants are active, and the authority expects to spend roughly $196,000 this year if projects complete by Nov. 30. Commissioners praised the rehousing effort and asked if the department could expand the rehab pipeline with additional funding; Fullerton said she will apply for the same funding levels again next year and that additional funding would enable more projects.
