The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Oct. 21 to approve Resolution 25-10-ZO-01, a zoning map amendment that reclassifies a 25.7-acre tract at 186 Highway 28 from light industrial (I-1) to rural residential (RR).
County planner Cassie Brown told the board the applicants, Adonis Bordone and Eliza Frias, want to cease industrial uses and live on the property. "They own a tract of land that's approximately 25.7 acres ... and the current zoning is light industrial," Brown said, adding the parcel is surrounded by agricultural and rural residential zoning and that staff found the change compatible with the county's comprehensive plan and zoning resolution. Brown also noted the Planning & Zoning Commission voted 4-0 to recommend approval.
Commissioner Toman moved to approve the rezoning and Commissioner Slaughter seconded. After hearing no public comments during the hearing, the board adopted the resolution by unanimous voice vote. The action will update the county zoning map to reflect the parcel's new rural residential designation and allow full residential use rather than accessory residential use under the existing industrial zoning.
