District staff presented proposed updates to Board Policy 5.17 on interdistrict transfer and attendance, emphasizing clearer communication about the district’s priority order for student placement. The changes add language specifying that when an employee’s child’s interdistrict transfer is approved beginning in kindergarten, the interdistrict transfer contract need not be renewed for subsequent years while the employee remains employed and transfer conditions are satisfied.
"Once an interdistrict transfer of an employee's child is approved beginning in kindergarten, the interdistrict transfer contract will not need to be renewed for subsequent years," staff explained. Trustees thanked staff for the clarification and asked that the district share the priority order more broadly with parents and community groups.
