Teachers' association warns proposed cuts will reduce classroom adult support

Matt Sigall, president of the Windsor Locks Teachers' Association, addressed the board during public comment to express concerns about proposed staffing eliminations. Sigall said the WLTA had been asking about potential budget cuts for a month and that eliminating six positions would "save about 1% of the budget but costs six positions," reducing adult support and affecting the district—ducation mission.
Sigall thanked Superintendent Parkhurst and board members for ongoing dialogue but said waiting until a later meeting to disclose additional possible eliminations (he said nine positions were being discussed) heightened concern among teachers. He told the Board the union will continue to collaborate on the budget process and pressed the administration to prioritize staff who work directly with students.
