Jane Labun, president of the Newbury Woman’s Club, told the Selectboard the Club is considering selling the Old Methodist Church building to the Newbury Weaving School to support the school’s growth. Labun said owning the building "would increase the Weaving School’s eligibility for grant funding and allow more flexibility for growth."
Labun also flagged legal constraints in the property deed, saying "According to the deed, transfer of ownership must be for a 'community purpose'." She urged the Club to develop a succession plan to protect stewardship if the school later closed. Justin Squizzero of the Newbury Weaving School confirmed the school’s interest in the proposal.
Chair Susan Culp said the Selectboard would delay a formal response while the Club completes its internal vote and legal review, and noted that acquiring additional Town property is likely not feasible. The Club will meet April 12 to discuss and prepare for a vote; the Board did not take any formal action at this meeting.
