County seeks wider right‑of‑way on Hiawatha Road to fix erosion; commissioners approve SF‑299 submittal

Public Works asked the board to authorize submission of an SF‑299 amendment to expand a portion of the Hiawatha Road right‑of‑way where erosion in Vermillion Creek threatens the road.
Gene Legursky explained Hiawatha Road crosses into Colorado three times and that the county maintains the Wyoming segments; erosion adjacent to Vermillion Creek has undermined the ditch and slope, and the county needs a larger right‑of‑way to remodel drainage and reinforce slopes before the road is lost. "What this is is the first step with the BLM to get a bigger right away in there so we can... fix that drainage problem and be able to reinforce the slope," Legursky said. He warned the BLM review could require archaeological surveys or other conditions once the county seeks land outside its existing right‑of‑way.
Commissioners moved and unanimously approved the SF‑299 submittal and authorized the chairman to sign. Legursky said he would return to the board if the BLM required additional actions or approvals.
