The Kalkaska County Board voted Dec. 17 to pursue the 2026 Survey and Remonumentation Grant of $42,082 and to take related administrative steps to support the remonumentation program.
The board authorized Grant Administrator JoAnn DeGraaf to apply for the state grant and to electronically sign the grant agreement. It approved a 2026 Surveyor Services Agreement, created a Remonumentation Peer Review Group of licensed surveyors (Neil Way, Scott Papineau and Marvin Meyers, with alternates Dave Gillette and Edward Heglin), and set compensation for peer-review members not to exceed $300 per member to be paid from the grant. The board also approved an annual $2,000 stipend for JoAnn DeGraaf for grant-administration duties, fully funded by the grant.
County Surveyor Dean Farrier addressed the board, stressing the importance of accurate survey corners for future surveying work. The board recorded the peer-review group membership and compensation details in the motion.
