The Vernon County Board approved a memorandum of agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to enable the county to acquire additional forestland adjoining existing public parcels.
An agency official said the county would voluntarily move repayment of a project loan from 20% to 40% of its timber-sale base while the loan balance drops to $100,000; the official told the board the current loan balance is about $900,000 and described the offered land at approximately $8,000 per acre (totaling about $640,000). "The landowner is very agreeable," the presenter said, and the county has already taken prior steps to approve the purchase in earlier resolutions.
Board members asked clarifying questions about what the MOA changes and were told the measure does not buy the land immediately but changes the repayment terms to facilitate the purchase. The resolution was brought to the floor and approved by voice vote.
