Christy Barnes, the commission’s staff liaison, told commissioners she will "be transitioning out of the liaison role for the next 9 ish month starting in February." She said Abby Benson will be physically present at commission meetings beginning in February and that Barnes will continue to support Benson and remain included in correspondence.
Barnes described the handoff as a planned transition to maintain continuity: "I'm not gone. I'm just not gonna physically be here with y'all ... I will be helping support Abby as she kinda steps into the liaison role," she said. Commissioners asked that contact lists and access to sign-up data be clarified so liaisons and commissioners know how to follow up with community members.
The change comes ahead of the commission's push to launch multiple working groups and a training cadence in spring 2026. Staff said the communications and sign-up process will be reviewed with the incoming liaison and that training logistics will be coordinated with consultant Stan.
