Snyder urges a simple project-tracker as EDC fields frequent Opportunity Austin leads

Board member Snyder told the Hutto EDC Dec. 8 that the corporation needs a simpler, repeatable way to respond to the daily volume of project leads the city receives through Opportunity Austin and other partners. Snyder argued the board should have a one-page template capturing core fields such as square footage, acreage, projected water/wastewater demand and power needs.
"If we take the same information instead of redoing it each time and we go, there's gotta be an easier way," Snyder said during a lengthy discussion on item 6.2. He and others described examples where rapid deadlines (site visits and final selections within weeks) make it important for staff to have a concise packet the board can use to respond quickly.
Staff said current practice is to bring projects to the board when incentives are requested, when projects propose to use EDC land, or when they represent large employers or capital investments; staff also confirmed it tracks OA and Wilco leads and can prioritize them if the board sets target sectors. The board directed staff to draft a proposed tracker with identifiers for lead source and sector, and to return with the tracker at the January meeting for review.
