Commission waives Fine Arts Building fee for July Special Olympics meet-and-greet

Representatives of the local Special Olympics program asked the commission for a one-time fee waiver to use the Fine Arts Building at the Box Elder County Fairgrounds for a meet-and-greet on the evening of July 23. Kayla Bingham, who said she recently took on leadership of the local delegation, described efforts to rebuild and publicize the program.
Matt Rose provided an estimate of the eligible population, saying there are "roughly estimated 1,600, children" ages 3 to 21 countywide who qualify for the program, while typical local event attendance has been 20 to 30 participants. Organizers said they have liability insurance and would use the space for about two hours.
Commissioner Perry moved to approve the fee waiver for July 23; Commissioner Bingham seconded, and the motion passed. The commission noted that rules for facility uses are under revision and that future requests may include costs to cover county staffing, but approved this one-time waiver for the fairgrounds Fine Arts Building.
