The Box Elder County Commission approved an island annexation into Garland City for property identified as 12800 North 7000 West.
Scott Lyons of the county Community Development Department explained that state code requires both the city and county to approve an island annexation for parcels not contiguous with city boundaries, and noted Garland City had approved the annexation at its May 20 council meeting. "When there is an island annexation ... this piece of property is separated by a few other properties from the city boundary," Lyons said, describing why dual approval is required. Commissioner Bingham moved to approve the annexation; Commissioner Perry seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote.
