Bros Engineering outlines resurfacing options; council asks for unit-price comparisons

Bros Engineering, represented on the phone by Kyle, walked the council through options for the proposed two-block project at the end of Main Street. Kyle outlined two procurement approaches: (1) pursue contractors with prior similar work (cheaper but fewer contractual protections), or (2) prepare a full bid package with design, bonds and insurance. He recommended coring street sections to determine existing base and asphalt thickness before choosing between milling+overlay, microsurfacing, chip seal or full reconstruction.
Council members asked for an options chart with unit prices and order-of-magnitude costs for each segment so they can weigh longevity and budget trade-offs at the September meeting. "We can give you a price to do cores," Kyle said, and staff agreed to inspect segments and return with recommendations and cost estimates for bid documents.
