Downtown board okays $12,500 for Tampa Bay Uke Fest on Cleveland Street

The Downtown Development Board voted unanimously on Aug. 3 to approve a $12,500 funding request for the Tampa Bay Ukulele Society’s Uke Fest, a free, family-oriented music festival scheduled for April 4, 2027. Staff recommended the award after reviewing a $26,500 event budget in which the applicant would contribute $10,000 and sponsors $3,500.
Rob Wilds, the event director, described plans for multiple performance stations along the 400 block of Cleveland Street, eight hours of continuous music, and workshops the day before. "We always do a lot of mainstream promotion and advertising," Wilds said, adding that the event expects about 1,000 visitors and brings both local and national performers. Trustees praised the event’s history and voted to approve the staff recommendation to fund up to $12,500.
Board members discussed the location change back to Cleveland Street and the event’s proven ability to draw out-of-area visitors; staff will finalize logistics with Parks & Rec and the applicant.
