County moves to adopt oversized/overweight permit rules and enforcement by sheriff

Legursky said staff spent two years drafting regulations that follow Wyoming Department of Transportation policy and noted the statutory authority under Wyoming statute 31‑18‑802. The proposal would let the sheriff's office issue and enforce permits and allow ports of entry and carriers to plan routes that county roads can safely carry. The sheriff described repeated incidents where out‑of‑state carriers planned routes without county permit confirmation and then attempted to use county bridges and roads unsuitable for particular loads.
Commissioners supported moving forward with a notice of intent and a public hearing process, tentatively beginning legal advertising and a hearing in March.
