Council issues proclamations and shares community updates; food distribution, circus and library promotions noted

Mayor Johann Wallace introduced two proclamations: Proclamation No. 2026-06 declaring April 11–17, 2026 as Week of the Young Child, and Proclamation No. 2026-07 declaring April 19–25, 2026 as Library Week. Council opened both items for discussion per the agenda.
In reports of current events, Councilmember Cynthia Butterworth reminded volunteers that the monthly food distribution occurs on the third Friday and will need volunteers to prepare bags and assist with car distribution; she also said she will attend the MPO meeting later in the month. Mayor Pro Tem Christy Hirshberg said she has circus tickets for sale and some donated tickets for children in need. Councilmember Nallely Arreola encouraged residents to fill out forms at the library for a chance to win free circus tickets for children. Councilmember Geovona Thompson recapped the Easter egg hunt with low turnout (she estimated about 20 children attended) and praised the barbecue; Thompson said publicity arrived late and recommended earlier notice for the future. Mayor Wallace also noted Huachuca City School students won awards in a countywide water-wise art contest presented at a Sierra Vista City Council meeting.
The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn, passed unanimously.
