Residents say Circle K crosswalk is dangerous after child hit; council says it will contact ADOT

Two members of the public told the Huachuca City Council on Jan. 8 that a crosswalk near the Circle K store is unsafe and in need of improved visibility or redesign.
Lonnie Brock described the danger at the crossing and Tami Ackerson said her daughter was hit while using the crosswalk properly. "Cars do not see the lights and stop," Ackerson said, and she urged the council to install something "better and safer." Mayor Johann R. Wallace said the crosswalk "is getting lots of attention," that local television outlets had inquired, and that he hoped to meet with Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) next week to discuss remedies.
Council did not take formal action at the meeting beyond noting community concern and planning outreach to ADOT. The item remains a public-safety follow-up for staff and council.
