FISD board sets calendar parameters: 165 student days, no more than 470 minutes daily

Miss Brooks summarized survey results from staff (about 300 responses) and parents (about 625 responses) and DEIC feedback on hybrid calendar options, reporting that staff retention and attendance improved under the hybrid model and that many parents favored four-day weeks in written comments. "The current calendar has benefited me, 90% agree or strongly agree," Brooks said while reporting response breakdowns and recurring themes from written comments.
Administration recommended developing the 2026-27 calendar within set parameters. "Administration recommends that the board approve the development of the 26-27 calendar with 165 student days, not to exceed 470 daily minutes, and the latest end date for students on or before May 27 as presented," Brooks said. Board discussion noted grant-eligibility implications (some grants request 165 days) and practical trade-offs for instructional minutes and scheduling; the board adopted the motion 6-0.
