Cass County approves updated 2026 Probation and Parole Community Corrections Comprehensive Plan
Summary
The Board approved the updated comprehensive plan required for Minnesota DOC subsidy; the department reported five new probation hires and a caseload increase from 399 to 454 adult felony cases since March.
Probation Director Jim Schneider and Team Leader Brad Mesenbrink presented an updated 2026 Cass County Probation and Parole Community Corrections Comprehensive Plan required for Community Corrections Act subsidy eligibility. Schneider reported that the department hired five probation agents and said "399 adult felony cases were transferred from the Minnesota Department of Corrections to Cass County in March, and the current caseload has increased to 454 adult felony cases, which includes individuals who have relocated to Cass County." The Corrections Advisory Board recommended approval.
Commissioner Rick Haaland moved to adopt the updated plan; the Board approved the motion unanimously. Commissioner Neal Gaalswyk noted his appointment to the Community Supervision Working Group for counties transitioning to CCA status and that a working-group meeting is scheduled for the end of July.
