Nobles County approves $136,508.92 to help extend fiber to Rushmore and Ellsworth

The Nobles County Board on Nov. 4 approved a $136,508.92 local contribution to a DEED Line Extension Connection Program to support Lismore Cooperative Telephone Company’s effort to extend fiber service to Rushmore, Ellsworth and other non-grant subscribers. The board directed that the contribution come from the county Building Fund.
The motion ultimately passed 2–1 after an earlier proposal to fund $100,000 failed for lack of a second. Commissioners Robert S. Demuth and Chris Dybevick voted in favor; Commissioner Justin Ahlers opposed; Commissioner Gene Metz recused himself from voting on the matter. The agenda listed Travis Halbur of Lismore Cooperative Telephone Company as the presenter for the request. The board’s action was recorded as a formal appropriation to be used as local matching funds for the DEED award.
