Administration recommended a full replacement of the high school running track and awarded the contract to Hellas Construction under a cooperative purchasing agreement after soliciting competitive bids.
Hellas' base alternate proposal was $366,700; the proposal excludes potential asphalt repairs that the district estimated could require an owner's allowance not to exceed $50,000. The scope includes removal and off-site disposal of existing surfacing, inspection and any necessary asphalt repairs, installation of a permeable paved mat and polyurethane surfacing system, and updated lane and event striping to meet UIL standards. Administration noted the project addresses safety, wear and compliance with current relay and event standards.
The board approved the contract 7–0 and administration said work will be scheduled after the football season to minimize disruption.
