Superintendent updates trustees on pending school funding, enrollment and calendar

Superintendent Dr. Gilstrap reviewed the district packet and highlighted enrollment and legislative items that could affect Floresville ISD. "So at the end of the year, we had 4,002 students enrolled on the last day of school," Gilstrap said, and noted the district's overall attendance year-to-date was 93.05%.
Gilstrap flagged several bills on the governor's desk that could influence funding and policy. He discussed a bill he described as providing $8,500,000,000 in new school funding that would invest in teacher pay and noted other measures that could affect handbooks, student code of conduct and implementation timing. He said the district is awaiting TASB policy updates after the legislative session and that a budget workshop is scheduled for 6 p.m. on June 9; a special meeting for final budget amendment and proposed budget approval is set for June 25.
The superintendent also summarized human-resources and contractual updates included in the packet, noted upcoming professional development (TASB SLI on June 12–13) and reminded board members about new-teacher orientation on July 28. He said policy update 125 will be considered after the summer and that policy local FNCE (telecommunication devices) will remain on a future agenda.
