The Santa Cruz County Office of Education board approved the COE strategic plan for 2025–2029 following presentation and discussion.
Superintendent Dr. Spall walked trustees through the plan’s structure, which sets three priorities — creating safety and wellness, empowering equitable achievement, and building sustainable systems — and links each priority to measurable indicators and an implementation roadmap. “We start with our with our focus on early childhood education and talk about, the need for availability of childcare in our community,” she said during the presentation.
Trustees and student trustees asked staff to ensure the plan contains clear, quantitative key performance indicators and to fix wording that could dehumanize students (for example, replacing phrasing like “something” with person‑first language). Staff responded that each department will create aligned action plans with measurable outcomes and that dashboards and data reports will track progress.
