The Huachuca City Council voted on March 26 to direct staff to explore the possibility of foreclosing on abatement liens for three properties to recover the town's costs for remediating hazardous conditions.
Mayor Johann Wallace said the town has repeatedly spent money on these properties without reimbursement. Town Attorney Thomas Benavidez explained the legal process is complicated and will incur costs; he noted the town has spent approximately $16,000 on 217 Pima Street over the years and said the properties "may not be worth the cost" to foreclose. Council moved to forward exploration of foreclosure for 217 Pima St., 303 Apache St., and 103 Tomahawk; the motion (moved by Johann Wallace, seconded by Christy Hirshberg) passed unanimously.
Staff was directed to research legal steps, cost estimates and potential net recovery before the council pursues formal foreclosure action.
