The Huachuca City Council on Feb. 12, 2026 adopted Ordinance 2026-01 to repeal the fee charged for criminal background checks before transfer of a firearm in the town code (Title 2, Chapter 2.55, §2.55.070).
Town Attorney Thomas Benavidez framed the change as necessary to align local code with state law, specifically A.R.S. 13-3108(A). Mayor Johann R. Wallace moved to adopt the ordinance; Christy Hirshberg seconded. The motion passed unanimously with six councilmembers voting yes and one member absent (Geovona Thompson).
