Students, teacher and band lauded at FLORESVILLE ISD board meeting

FLORESVILLE ISD trustees recognized student and staff achievements at their Dec. 1 meeting, honoring Hazen Manuel and Nora Phelan as students of the month and naming Jessica Wallace teacher of the month.
"Hazen's grown up here in FLORESVILLE ISD, and he's involved in several different activities on campus," campus presenter Barrett said while introducing Hazen and describing his academic record and extracurricular involvement. Barrett also noted Nora Phelan was visiting Texas Tech on a site visit and that she had earned a scholarship to Dallas Baptist University. The board praised Jessica Wallace for 15 years in education and for leading the district's TAPI program.
Later in the meeting the district recognized the high school marching band for an exceptional season: first-place finishes at local contests, top caption awards at region events and advancement to the area and state competitions (the band placed 23rd at state). The band director told trustees it was the first time in his 21 years that the ensemble had placed first at prelims and advanced in the way it did.
