Commissioners approve $61,500 roof bid, ask staff to coordinate separate box-gutter work

Ripley County commissioners voted to accept a $61,500 bid from Regional Roofing to replace courthouse shingles, but they instructed staff to hold off on ordering materials until staff confirmed coordination with a separate contractor for the courthouse's box gutters.

Craig, the county maintenance representative, briefed the board on the clock-tower work and the roofing quotes, noting that "they did get the flashing around the clock done" and describing differences in bids and materials offered. Commissioners emphasized the need to verify that vendors were quoting the same high-grade shingles and comparable removal and safety methods before awarding work.

The board discussed three comparable offers: a partial clock-tower repair quote, full-roof prices, and separate box-gutter line items. Commissioners said the box-gutter line item presented a wide price spread, and Chair and staff agreed to contact Kramer and others to explore cooperating arrangements so box-gutter work could be done in coordination with the roof replacement.

Roger moved to accept Regional Roofing's $61,500 full-roof bid (roof only); the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners stressed that the county should not order materials until Kramer confirmed whether he would perform the box-gutter work and could do so on a schedule compatible with the scaffold and shingle installation.

The board instructed maintenance to collect comparable shingle samples and formalize specifications (brand/grade, removal method, lift/scaffolding approach) to ensure bids are evaluated on an equal basis going forward.
