The CEO of Habitat (role given in the hearing) and Glenn Dixon, now director of construction at Habitat, outlined plans for a 16‑unit building and a 15‑unit building targeted to households at 30–60% of area median income, plus two single‑family homes on subdivided Canal Street lots. Dixon said construction for the 6‑plex phase would start in May and conclude in November 2026, with the 5‑plex beginning in early 2027.
Dixon cited a January city study that identified a shortage of nearly 4,500 affordable units for households under 60% AMI and said these projects would add home‑ownership opportunities for about 13 families while supporting neighborhood revitalization and construction employment. "We have built over 220 homes, with over 1,200 home repairs on the books," Dixon said, describing Habitat's local track record.
Board members asked clarifying questions about timeline, eligibility for funding and next steps; the public hearing closed with no members of the public speaking to the item. The board later considered related Habitat extension and reallocation items during the regular agenda and approved them in a consolidated motion.
