McKinney planning commission approves consent items, forwards three rezonings to council

The City of McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission opened its April 14 meeting with procedural announcements, approved the consent agenda (minutes from March 24, 2026) and then heard three rezoning cases that were all recommended to go forward to City Council for final action.
The Commission approved the consent minutes by voice vote, and then voted unanimously to forward the Cannon Beach (PD) and FM 546 (I-1/C-2) rezoning requests to council for hearings on April 21 and May 5, respectively. The most contested item—an R-5 rezoning north of FM 543—was forwarded on a 6–1 vote after neighbors urged a delay, citing traffic and safety concerns. The Commission adjourned at 6:26 p.m.
Chair opened the meeting with a reminder that "your comments and your opinions are important to us and they do become a part of the city's public record." The City Council will make the final decisions on the three forwarded rezoning requests.
