Planning commission forwards Cannon Beach rezoning to council after signage error

The McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission on April 14 voted unanimously to forward the Cannon Beach rezoning to City Council for final action on April 21, 2026, after staff said the item was re-presented solely because of a signage and noticing error.
Jake Bennett, planner with the City of McKinney, told commissioners the request to rezone the property to a PD (plan development district) mirrored the version approved by the Commission on March 10 and that staff continued to recommend approval. "This case is going to look a little bit familiar to you. It was presented to PNC about a month ago… Due to a technical error, it's back in front of you all tonight," Bennett said.
Applicant Sam Lawrence confirmed the development plans have not changed since the prior hearing, telling the Commission, "There's been no changes to development whatsoever." With no members of the public indicating concern during the public hearing, Commissioner Hammock moved to close the hearing and approve the recommendation; the chair announced the motion carried 7–0.
The Commission's recommendation will be included on the City Council agenda for its April 21 meeting for final action. No staff conditions or changes to the development were reported at the Commission hearing.
