MSU Extension director thanks county for approving ballot language, highlights 4‑H programs

Erin Daines, MSU Extension District Director, told the Elder County Committee of the Whole that the extension is running a millage renewal on the August 4 ballot and thanked the board for approving the ballot language. "I just wanted to show up here today too just to remind you that we are running for the August 4, election," Daines said, and distributed a fact sheet describing what the renewal would fund.

Daines described 4‑H activities in the three counties in the district, including camps, kayaking and snorkeling programs, arts and crafts, and collaboration with the DNR and local leagues that provide entry points to longer extension programs. She emphasized extension's role as an education resource and told the board, "I cannot tell you how to vote," while asking for community members to be "friends of extension" and share information about the renewal.

Board members asked clarifying questions about the Little League versus 4‑H Little League arrangements and coach background checks; Daines said 4‑H leaders complete several training modules and background checks. The presentation closed with the director thanking the board again and offering to answer follow‑up questions or share materials with county staff.
