The Brookfield Planning Board opened a public hearing on July 6 to consider an Intent to Excavate application and Gravel Permit for Thomas Smith at 228 Governors Road (Map 11 Lot 1), but the applicant was not present and the board voted to continue the hearing to its regular meeting on August 10.
Chair Ed Ingalls read the public notice into the record: "The Brookfield Planning Board will hold a public hearing on Monday, July 6, 2026 at 6:00 pm at the Town Offices at 267 Wentworth Rd to discuss an Intent to Excavate application and Gravel Permit for Thomas Smith, Map 11 Lot 1, 228 Governors Rd." He told attendees the State is requiring gravel pits to have annual permit numbers, which is why the board is assigning and reviewing permits this year.
Donna Faucette made a motion to continue the hearing to the August 10 regular meeting; Mark Lofgren seconded the motion. The board voted 7-0 in favor, formally continuing the hearing. The continuance was recorded at 6:15 p.m. and is contingent on Mr. Smith's agreement to the new date.
The board did not take any final action on the permit at the July 6 session because the applicant was absent. The matter will be taken up again at the August 10 meeting, at which the application, any inspection reports, and public comments will be considered.
