Olathe proclaims September 2025 Deaf Culture Month, honors Kansas School for the Deaf

Mayor John Bacon opened the Sept. 2 meeting by reading a proclamation declaring September 2025 as Deaf Culture Month in Olathe and highlighting the city’s relationship with the Kansas School for the Deaf and other local organizations.
Dean Muzanski, athletic director at the Kansas School for the Deaf, accepted the proclamation and described the school’s statewide role since 1961. “We focus on academics, athletics, student growth,” Muzanski said, noting KSD’s K–12 sports, esports and partnerships with Parks and Recreation as priorities for future campus development. The proclamation cites the Museum of Deaf History, Arts and Culture and the Olathe Club of the Deaf and encourages citizens to learn about deaf culture and visual language.
The proclamation was presented as part of the council’s special business agenda; council members recognized the organization’s contributions and the resolution stands as a symbolic endorsement of continued collaboration between the city and deaf‑community institutions.
