BRAG CEO Board update; Commission appoints Michael Nelson to BESO Merit Commission

Shawn Milne of the Bear River Association of Governments (BRAG) briefed commissioners on the 2026 CEO Board and rural grant activity. He said GOED (formerly GOEO) revised rules requiring that at least one board member be able to vote on funding recommendations, and that the board nominated Chairman Tyler Vincent as the county's potential appointee; the formal appointment will be made at a future meeting. Milne said BRAG would present a formal contract to the Commission before September 1, 2026, and described grant programs including small-business pass-through grants, infrastructure, water/sewer, broadband and the Box Elder Chamber Dashboard.
Commissioner Perry nominated Michael Nelson, former Brigham City Chief of Police, to fill the remainder of a vacancy on the Box Elder Sheriff Office (BESO) Merit Commission after Danny Earl's resignation. The Commission approved Nelson's appointment by a unanimous roll-call vote (Vincent, Bingham, Perry — all Yea).
