Commission approves lease with Smelter City Senior Citizen's Center despite roof concerns; vote 4-1

The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Commission approved a lease agreement with the Smelter City Senior Citizen's Center at its April 7 meeting. CEO Bill Everett described the agreement as longstanding and said the county would continue to work with voters and budgets to address maintenance costs.
Mark Steinberg, a board member of the Senior Citizen's Center, told commissioners the center's roof—replaced five years earlier—has had premature failures and the contractor has not responded to follow-up requests. "I was wondering if there is anything that the Commission can do to help that process move forward," Steinberg said. CEO Everett invited Steinberg to meet the next day to explore remedies.
Commissioner Steve Gates moved to approve the lease; Commissioner Paul Smith seconded. The motion passed 4-1 with Commissioner Ed Beaudette recording the dissenting vote. No additional funding actions were taken at the meeting.
