Community corrections director outlines grant application; board approves funding request and advisory-board appointment

Trevor Catholic, community corrections director for Marquette Regional, told the Alger County Board on June 15 that the upcoming grant application will prioritize continuation of TRICAP, an opiate- and methamphetamine-specific program, and will include funding for pretrial risk assessments on a per-request basis. "We actually have additional, $50,000 from Wayne County just because we've had higher utilization," Trevor said, describing a change in regional participation and funding projections.

During follow-up questions board members pressed on how referrals and furloughs would be handled when participants come from other counties; Trevor said the grant budget is based on projections and that additional counties (Iron, Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw) may join if funding is available. The board moved to approve the community corrections grant application for fiscal year 2027 and to appoint a commissioner to the community corrections advisory board; the motion passed with the board's recorded voice vote.
