Board backs SMART SCALE application work for I‑81 Exit 298 after crash-history review

Mr. Lemuel Hancock presented operational and safety analyses for the I‑81 Exit 298 ramps and described the county's SMART SCALE application prepared with the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission (NSVRC). He said the study reviewed traffic counts, ramp operations, crash history and recommended a conventional signalized intersection as the preferred alternative.
Supervisor Mark Dotson asked whether the project appears in the County and Town comprehensive plans; Hancock said it is included in the County's transportation chapter and that he would check with Strasburg regarding the town's plan. The Board was asked to provide a resolution of support for the SMART SCALE application; staff framed this as the next procedural step in pursuing funding and design work.
