Commission recommends rezoning and plat for Earth Contact Products industrial expansion

Emily Carrillo, senior planner and the staff liaison to the Historic Preservation Board, presented a rezoning and final plat for Earth Contact Products on Sept. 22. The applicant proposes to demolish two existing 1980s buildings and construct a new 28,000‑square‑foot industrial building for manufacturing, storage and shipping on a site that must be rezoned from county zoning to a city M2 district.
Carrillo said the proposal complies with the Plan Olathe future land use map, meets UDO dimensional and landscape requirements, and includes dedication of a 10‑foot utility easement along Keeler Terrace. She noted a stipulation requiring final architectural materials to meet industrial building design standards prior to final site development plan approval. "Staff is recommending approval of the rezoning RZ25‑eleven with no stipulations," Carrillo told the commission, while clarifying the preliminary plan includes the architectural requirement prior to final approval.
No members of the public signed up to speak. Commissioners moved and separately approved the rezoning (RZ25‑11) and the final plat (FP25‑26); both motions passed unanimously, 7–0. Both items will proceed to City Council on Oct. 21 for final action.
