The board opened its annual organizational meeting and conducted required elections and appointments under Education Code and the board bylaws.
Trustee 11 nominated a candidate for board president and the motion was seconded; the board approved the nomination by roll-call vote. Following the vote, the new president took the chair. The board then nominated and elected Dr. Castillo Schiffer as clerk for the 2025–26 calendar year; that motion similarly passed on roll call. Later the board moved to appoint Superintendent Garcia as the board secretary for 2025–26, which also passed.
Miss Hernandez, upon taking the chair, thanked fellow trustees and pledged to lead with equity and transparency: "I come to this role with a commitment to equity and to ensuring that every student... have the support, resources, and encouragement they need to succeed," she said.
All votes on officer selections were taken by roll call with members recorded as voting aye. The organizational actions included also selecting a district representative to the Santa Barbara County Committee on School District Organization and affirming the proposed regular meeting dates for 2026.
These organizational votes were procedural items required by state law and the board’s bylaws; they set leadership and meeting cadence for the coming year.
